Contact Us: Piatt County Records

Piatt County Busted Mugshots is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or pull an official booking record. For a current answer or an official copy, contact the government office that holds the record.

Start With the Right Office

Piatt County Jail is described by the county as operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That does not establish round-the-clock administrative service. Office hours can vary, so confirm before visiting the Public Safety Building.

Official Piatt County Jail information and the county FOIA page provide the agency's own instructions.

The jail line is the practical route for a general question about a person who may be in the facility. It is not a published booking-photo feed, and Piatt County did not have a verified public current-custody roster in the reviewed official sources.

No sheriff mobile app or booking-specific social feed was verified. An official sheriff social account is a general update channel, not proof of a current booking. The Circuit Clerk application is a separate court service, not a corrections roster.

Use the following paths for the record type involved:

  • For a Piatt booking record or available booking photo, use the county search and records path, then send a bounded written FOIA request to the sheriff contact above.
  • For a current local custody question, call Piatt County Jail at 217-762-3766 or check the official jail information page. A missing online result is not proof of release or transfer.
  • For a case number, charge disposition, or court file, contact the Piatt County Circuit Clerk at 101 West Washington, Monticello, 217-762-4966, or use the Circuit Clerk application.
  • For a wanted listing or warrant question, use the Sheriff's Most Wanted page for the county-specific check path. A listing is not a custody confirmation.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner or parole record, use the live IDOC Individual in Custody Search.
  • For federal custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator. For current ICE detention, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator.
  • For custody, transfer, or court notifications, check Illinois VINE or call 866-566-8439. VINE is an alert service, not a mugshot roster, and Piatt participation should be confirmed in the live system.

FOIA timing, copies, and limits

5 ILCS 140/2.15 covers qualifying arrest information, including a photograph when and if available, and sets a no-later-than-72-hour benchmark after arrest, subject to its exceptions. That rule does not promise an online upload. Piatt County's FOIA page says a request is generally answered or denied within five business days, with a possible statutory extension, under 5 ILCS 140/3.

Under 5 ILCS 140/6, the first 50 black-and-white letter or legal pages are free, later black-and-white copies are capped at 15 cents per page, electronic delivery should be used when feasible, and certification has a $1 cap. 5 ILCS 140/7 allows exemptions and redactions. The sheriff's published fee schedule does not list a booking-record or booking-photo charge, so ask the FOIA contact about the current copy or media cost instead of assuming a fee.

Correction, sealing, and protected records

815 ILCS 505/2QQQ provides a correction route for certain for-profit publishers that charge to remove or correct criminal-record information. It is not a Piatt County takedown portal. For court-ordered expungement or sealing, use the Illinois Courts forms and the 20 ILCS 2630/5.2 process. Juvenile law-enforcement records receive special confidentiality under 705 ILCS 405/1-7.

When asking for a record, identify the person or a narrow date range, the arresting agency if known, and each requested item. Ask for the non-exempt portion and the statutory reason for any withholding. Do not use the sheriff's web contact form for an emergency. Call 911 for an emergency.
